So you are interested in receiving counseling?
Choosing to receive counseling can be a difficult decision but is one of the most rewarding things you may ever end up doing.
Our perception of things, many times, is developed from what we watch on television. When people think of counseling, they think of "What About Bob", "Analyze This", "Frasier", "Monk", and many other shows. They see counseling as something for people with "severe" difficulties. One might imagine the therapist as an older person with a beard sitting in a plush leather chair. While the client, who is laying down on a lounger, talks intently about his subconscious.
Counseling has developed extensively from its infancy in Freudian Psychology. In fact, counseling is a broad term that encompasses many facets of human healing and support. Counseling methods may include: defining strengths and growth areas, skill development, consultation, education, and emotional identification and processing.
Life challenges abound and many times we require additional "tools" to help navigate these events. Life transitions, loss, ambivalence, lack of energy, relationship struggles, behavioral or emotional difficulties, career and life development, preventative care, unraveling past hurts, unforgiveness, shame, preparative work, parenting, and addictions are a few areas in our life that we can benefit from learning new tools.
Counseling...
Offers a way to gain perspective on your behavior, emotions and relationships.
Provides a means to express your feelings and identify patterns of thinking.
Alleviates anxiety, depression, and anger in their many forms.
Helps develop communication skills for dealing with conflict and frustration.
Is a means for addressing pain, working through loss and adding meaning to your life.
Counseling is about being EMPOWERED to courageously face one's fears, to want more from life, and to expand one's life to achieve goals both personally and professionally.
Counseling is profitable for anyone; whether you are seeking assistance for a crisis in your life or you are looking for a way to MAXIMIZE your potential.
